It's gorgeous. And it's making me rethink some of my kitchen ideas. Decorno posted about this kitchen yesterday, but then I found more pics here. I had decided to use one of Ikea's pantry cabinet in the redone kitchen, next to the fridge. Like this:

We badly need a broom closet somewhere. Anywhere. I really like how the Ikea pantries have all the little places for everything, but it would probably be a lot more interesting to have a pantry cabinet made from reclaimed wardrobe doors. Hmmm. One of our original ideas was to use new cabinets beneath the counter and reclaimed, interesting-looking cabinets above the counter. But then I started thinking new! shiny! cabinets are what I want. And now I am possibly returning to our original ideas. Remember how it took us nine years to buy a couch? Yeah.

I've been wanting a Blik decal for my office wall-- to hide the smudges caused by parking my bike against it. I haven't yet found the ideal thing, but whenever I check out their site, I always see something I like.
Mina Javid's designs are delightful, especially the warehouse pendant light:

This post on Decorno got me thinking about what many people call sofas. My grandmother calls them davenports. I wish I had the guts to sport that affectation.
When we got married, Rex’s and my taxable income came to about $11K--, not $111K, no, you read those two digits correctly, so our furniture was all donated. We had a lovely old camel-back sofa courtesy of Rex’s grandmother. It had been upholstered in a pinkish toile, but his roommate’s cat shredded the toile irreparably, so Rex ripped it off, leaving the muslin, which quickly got filthy. When I moved in with him, I reupholstered the couch in a dark jewel-tone tapestry-style fabric using brass tacks and a glue gun. It looked fine, although it was rather uncomfortable.
(This is the pink toile, all that's left is a pillow.)

I had been thinking obsessively about kitchens, and while they still occupy a rather large percentage of my brain mass, most of my time is spent thinking about Eleven's room. I've been scouring Craigslist for a new bed frame for her, but haven't found anything decent. Given the small size of her room, this painted headboard seems like the perfect idea. Last night, I had a eureka moment-- we'll do it in chalkboard paint! I think a design blogger was recently bemoaning this idea, due to chalk dust in bed, but Eleven doesn't seem to notice that sort of thing. I often feel like a latter day version of the Princess and the Pea, I can't stand to walk around barefoot because I hate stepping on anything), but Eleven did not inherit this fastidiousness from me.

It seems like we should be able to work these ledge ideas into our house. This one is especially cute.
