The great wasteland of my brain

I had been thinking obsessively about kitchens, and while they still occupy a rather large percentage of my brain mass, most of my time is spent thinking about Eleven's room. I've been scouring Craigslist for a new bed frame for her, but haven't found anything decent. Given the small size of her room, this painted headboard seems like the perfect idea. Last night, I had a eureka moment-- we'll do it in chalkboard paint! I think a design blogger was recently bemoaning this idea, due to chalk dust in bed, but Eleven doesn't seem to notice that sort of thing. I often feel like a latter day version of the Princess and the Pea, I can't stand to walk around barefoot because I hate stepping on anything), but Eleven did not inherit this fastidiousness from me.

The Younger Child saw the cover of the latest issue of the New Yorker and said, "It's Michelle Obama, with her Michelle Obama friends having a Michelle Obama party."

Can't quite believe it

 

Could this couple be any more adorable? I know I'm totally shallow and all about the dresses and the obviously in-love married couple and the delightful children, but I'm also pretty damn thrilled about reviving the Geneva Conventions and closing Gitmo and restricting lobbying and moving this country on a path toward what it should be. A big shout-out to Congress, too, for finally giving women some real tools for effecting pay equity.

I know it's totally inappropriate for a white girl to say that, but, damn, I have never been more happy to see two people board a helicopter.

The speech was amazing, of course. I felt all inspired to dig in and go to work. Okay, not really, but in keeping with my firm belief in highly progressive taxation, I'd be happy to forgo my expected tax relief and give back even more to help my president, my president, fix this country.

But more importantly, could this family be more adorable?

 

No, they could not.

I loved Michelle's outfit. I loved Sasha's color combo, I love the beautiful Malia, and I love my president.

 

I am so happy we're going to be hanging with this family for the next eight years. That's right, I said eight.

Repeal Prop 8 - do it for the shrimp

This is my favorite picture from the protest marches yesterday and it really gets at what drives me crazy about people who try to impose their arbitrarily chosen biblical law on the rest of us. I don't want to hear anything out of their mouths unless there is no shrimp or bacon going into their mouths.

I still can't believe it

YES WE CAN

I knew he would win, or at least I knew that by yesterday when the polls were so overwhelmingly in his favor, but I still can't quite believe that he actually has won. It seems impossible. We finally have a serious president, a thoughtful president, a considerate president, a good president. It's been a long eight years. And really, it seems impossible to believe that this country has a black president. Pretty awesome, isn't it?

And now, back to our regularly scheduled frivolity. What was up with Michelle's dress?
